Meyer was one of fifteen scientists who worked on Project Carthage, alongside both Waldo and Anthea Schaeffer. He was a close friend of the pair and was planned to be the godfather of Aelita Schaeffer, not born yet.

Upon discovering the true purpose of Project Carthage, both Anthea and Waldo defected from Project Carthage and flee the country. They keep in contact with Alan, still considering him a close friend who could be trusted. Little did they know he was the mind at the center of true purpose of Project Carthage.

Alan betrays Waldo and Anthea, revealing their location to the Men in Black in exchange for his own immunity and a role in the new Project Carthage run by the American government. This directly led to the kidnapping and ambiguous fate for Anthea Schaeffer as well as the events of the entire show.
